Food Assistance


Warehouse Those seeking food assistance must have documentation of residence in Pickens County as well as identification for each immediate family member receiving services. This brief application for services will be required at the first visit.

In many cases where assistance is provided, there will be active steps required in exchange for financial assistance provide (for example: volunteer hours at the Thrift Store or other area charity) or in order to remain eligible for food assistance (for example: taking steps to register for G.E.D., devising a resume, or taking a budgeting class.

A volunteer counselor will meet briefly with each client and may make referrals to other community agencies or services, as appropriate. After meeting with the counselor, clients requesting food assistance will receive approximately one week's worth of food. The number of people in the family determines the amount of food given. Available products can vary from week to week. When available, non - food items are included (for example - diapers, toilet paper, soap, detergent, etc.).
